Mengão continues to strengthen its squad for the women's soccer season, and its fourth signing is 35-year-old goalkeeper Vivi Holzel, who previously played for Grêmio. She signed a contract until 2026 and arrives after shining at the Brasil Ladies Cup in December, where she saved three penalties in the final and helped the team win the championship.
A native of São Paulo, Vivi has an extensive resume within the sport and has represented the Brazilian national team at both the youth and professional levels. A South American champion with the U-20 team, she rose to prominence and competed in the 2008 World Cup. She then played for several clubs, including Corinthians, Centro Olímpico-SP, Foz Cataratas, São José-SP, 3B da Amazônia, Ponte Preta, Palmeiras, Internacional, and Santos, before returning to the South last year. It's worth noting that she also played abroad, for Grindavik (Iceland) and Avaldsnes (Norway).
Experienced, the goalkeeper's main strengths include reflexes and excellent goalkeeping. A penalty-taking specialist, she's a natural leader and wants to contribute to winning titles with the Sacred Mantle.
"I'm happy and honored to be part of a gigantic club like Flamengo, and I'm sure this year will be full of achievements for us. I'm certain the entire group will show no shortage of commitment and dedication, because together, we want to take Mengão to the top. We'll really need the nation's support," she commented.
