CALLED UP! Cris and Kaylane Júnior will represent Brazil in the U-20 World Cup
Midfielders are on the list for the final of the most important youth competition
By Flamengo Communication - inThe red-black women's football team received spectacular news on Wednesday morning (27). Club highlights, Cris and Kaylane Júnior were called up by coach Jonas Urias for the U-20 World Cup, which will be held in Costa Rica, between August 10 and 28. They watched the call-up live after training and were celebrated by their teammates and all members of the technical committees (base and professional).
Signed in 2022, Cris immediately became a starter on the first team. Possessing refined technique, the athlete won over Coach Luis Andrade and has been a standout performer. Captain of the Brazilian national team in their U-20 South American Championship triumph, the number 8 hopes to lead the team to the top of the podium.
"We know how difficult our group is, but we're prepared for all challenges. We want to first secure a spot in the knockout stage and then fight for the title. I'm very happy with the call-up. It's an important moment in my career, and I want to make the most of it. Flamengo gives me all the support I need to do my job well, and this is the result of a lot of hard work every day," she stated.
Kaylane Júnior arrived at Mengão in June 2021 and turned heads at the Brazilian Under-18 Championship in Sorocaba. Tactically focused, skilled, and feisty, the midfielder was one of the Mais Querido's standout performers at that year's Brazilian Under-20 Championship and subsequently moved up a category. Upon hearing her name, the "Menina da Gávea" (Girl from Gávea) burst into tears.
"A movie plays in my head, and there's no way to describe the feeling. It's a lifelong dream come true, being able to represent my country in a competition of this magnitude. I was thrilled because I've been working toward this goal since my first day at Flamengo. The structure here has allowed me to improve my performance on and off the field, so I'd like to thank them. Now it's time to focus on playing a great role in Costa Rica. Oh, and a youngster is a youngster, right? From Maré to the world," he declared.
The duo will be performing next Saturday and will travel with the delegation on Sunday (31). The debut will be against Spain and, after that, the opponents will be Australia and the host country. Before that, the team will face two preparatory friendlies, against Dimas Escazú and New Zealand.
