In the eighth round of the Women's Carioca Championship, Flamengo beat Botafogo 2-1 on Wednesday morning (03), at the São Cristóvão Stadium. The goals for the Most Beloved were scored by Rafa Barros and Pimenta. In the next round, Mengão faces Bangu at CEFAN.

The game
The derby started evenly, with both teams looking to attack. Then, in the 27th minute, Mengão opened the scoring! Rayanne crossed from the right and Rafa Barros finished into the net: 1-0. With the advantage, the Meninas da Gávea opened up more and began to hold the ball longer, exchanging passes in attack. The first half ended with the Mais Querido (Most Beloved) in the lead.

Early in the second half, Flamengo extended their lead. Darlene delivered a beautiful pass to Pimenta, who slotted it past the goalkeeper to score Mengão's second goal: 2-0. After the goal, Botafogo began to attack more, giving goalkeeper Gabi Croco a hard time, making some excellent saves. In the 42nd minute, Darlene advanced freely down the right, burst into the box, and struck powerfully. The ball went just to the right of the Botafogo goalkeeper.

In the 44th minute, defender Karen reduced the deficit for Botafogo after deflecting a cross into the box: 2-1. In the final minutes, the red-and-black team managed to hold on to the advantage and left the field with an important victory against a direct rival in the fight for the Taça Guanabara title.

Next appointment
The Meninas da Gávea return to the field next Saturday (06) to face Bangu, at 10 am, at CEFAN.
