This Friday afternoon (7) was full of visits to Flamengo's headquarters in Gávea. The US Soccer Team Region III, the United States youth team, visited the red-black facilities, including the Fla-Memória and the main field. The girls face Flamengo/Marinha in a friendly this Saturday (8).
Ashley Hamilton, team administrator, praised the club's support: "We're very happy. Visiting a club here in Brazil is a great opportunity; the girls are very excited to play against the women's and men's teams. (The club) exceeded all our expectations, as we don't have that in the United States, with all the sports together. What they're doing here is really cool, and giving us the opportunity to see everything, behind the scenes, is something these girls don't know about and is very important to them. It's a great opportunity not only to come to Brazil, but to visit one of the biggest clubs in the world and have this experience."
The team represents a project created by the United States National Team, which aims to train and prepare young North American youth athletes. Divided by region, Flamengo/Marinha's opponents represent Region III, or the Southern region.
Played this Saturday, the friendly between Mais Querido and the United States team will also serve as training for Flamengo/Marinha, which is competing in the Brasileirão Feminino.
