Women's soccer team officially presented

Flamengo's new women's soccer team, in partnership with the Brazilian Navy, was officially unveiled this Thursday morning (July 16.07) at the Admiral Adalberto Nunes Physical Education Center (CEFAN). The uniforms that will be worn by the athletes were also unveiled along with the team. The girls will wear the Flamengo Regatta Club's Sacred Mantle, featuring the Navy's crest and name, to compete in this year's Carioca and Brazilian championships. The partnership contributes to the future of women's soccer in Brazil, fostering the development of new talent and ensuring the sport's promotion and practice.
Flamengo vice-president Walter D'Agostino commented on the initiative, which he believes is essential for the development of Brazilian sports. "It's no secret that Flamengo always intends to participate in Olympic sports. Flamengo is perhaps one of the few clubs in Brazil that competes in a large proportion of all Olympic sports, and football is one of them. Flamengo has considered this idea before, but it never came to fruition. In Brazilian football, only those who do it know the difficulties. The Brazilian Navy expressed interest; they have a great team, the current world champion, and now Flamengo will partner with them," stated the club's vice-president.
The president of the Navy Sports Commission, Admiral Carlos Chagas Viana Braga, also commented on the Navy's incorporation into the Gávea club, praising the team that will also represent Brazil at the Military World Games in October in South Korea. "We have a team that will also join Flamengo today. A team that was champion of the 2011 Military World Games, which is a great source of pride for us in the Navy. They are extremely dedicated athletes, third sergeants in the Brazilian Navy, and this will allow the club to use the team to compete in the Campeonato Carioca and the Campeonato Brasileiro. This also gives the Navy the opportunity to conduct more effective training, participating in these high-level competitions. This way, the team gets better and better, and we better represent Brazil," said the Admiral.
The team features players Tânia Maranhão and Andréia dos Santos, also known as Maycon, who are Olympic and Pan-American medalists for the Brazilian national team. The Rio de Janeiro State Championship for this category will begin on July 25th.
