In the Rio de Janeiro derby of the third round of the Brazilian Women's Championship, Flamengo drew 1-1 with Botafogo, this Friday (13), at the Nilton Santos stadium. After falling behind on the scoreboard, Meninas da Gávea sought equality in the second half with Layza Cavalcanti. With the result, Mengão totaled seven points and momentarily took the lead in the championship.  

The game

The match began with Flamengo taking the initiative and looking to control possession in the attacking third. In the eighth minute, Jucinara took a free kick from midfield, and the ball went just wide of the Botafogo goalkeeper's left post. The initial game pattern showed Flamengo dominating possession, while Botafogo waited to counter-attack.

In Botafogo's first good attack, Vivi Holzel made a beautiful save, diving to her left. As the minutes passed, Botafogo changed its strategy and began to frequent the attacking field more, circling the Flamengo area. At 29', Mariana made a good play on the right side of the area and crossed. Fernanda controlled the ball and shot, it deflected off the defense and went out for a corner.

Next, Fernanda crossed into the area, Cristiane appeared unmarked at the far post and shot point-blank. Michelle dove to make a great save. In the final minutes of the first half, Rebeca took a beautiful shot from outside the area, the ball deflected off Núbia and went into the goal. Botafogo went into halftime with the lead.

In the second half, Flamengo returned with a higher defensive line, pressing Botafogo's build-up play, which made it more difficult for them to string passes together. In the 10th minute, Cristiane made a good run down the left side of the box and shot directly at goal, forcing Michelle to make another great save.

Another good chance for the Flamengo women's team came in the 21st minute. Fernanda received the ball at the edge of the box and shot towards the goalkeeper's right corner. The ball went just wide of the post. After much persistence, Flamengo equalized in the 35th minute. Fernanda took a free kick into the box and the ball fell to Layza Cavalcanti who finished into the net: 1-1.

The game almost turned around in the final minute of regulation time. Djeni took a free kick from just outside the penalty area, the ball went over the wall and hit the crossbar. After six minutes of added time, the referee blew the final whistle with the score tied.
