In the Rio de Janeiro derby of the third round of the Brazilian Women's Under-20 Championship, Flamengo ended up being defeated by Fluminense 1-0 on Tuesday afternoon (17), in Gávea. With the result, the tricolor team overtook Rubro-Negro in the Group B standings of the national competition. The teams will face each other again next week, in the match that opens the second round.

The game

The match began with both teams cautiously sizing each other up. The Flamengo women's team took the initiative, exchanging passes in the attacking third, but struggled to penetrate the penalty area due to the strong marking from the Fluminense defense. Fluminense, in turn, also had difficulty getting out of their defensive zone due to the highly contested game, especially in midfield.

The first good chance for the red-and-black team came in the 19th minute. Anna Luiza passed to Brendha at the edge of the area, the number 9 set it up for Leane to shoot first-time, aiming for the left corner of the goal. The ball went just wide of the post.

During the first half, Flamengo maintained greater ball possession and had a chance to open the scoring in stoppage time. Kaylane Vieira picked up the loose ball inside the area and shot towards goal, but the Fluminense defender managed to clear it off the line, preventing a Flamengo goal. Thus, the first half ended with a goalless draw.

At the start of the second half, Fluminense returned with greater attacking pressure, taking possession of the ball more and reaching the attack with more force. In the 16th minute, after a free kick into the area, Brendha rose higher than the opposing defense and headed the ball, but it ended up in the goalkeeper's hands.

Fluminense took the lead in the 21st minute. With a long ball, striker Carioca outpaced her marker and slotted the ball past Condorelli to score the first goal of the match: 1-0.

In the final minutes, the Flamengo team went all out on the attack in search of an equalizer, pressuring their opponent until the very last minute, but they couldn't find the net. It was the first defeat for the Flamengo women's team in the competition.
