Girls from Gávea seek consolidation in second place in Group 2
By Mariana Sa - inIn the penultimate round before the end of the first phase of the Brazilian Women's Football Championship, Flamengo/Marinha faces Ponte Preta this Wednesday (15), at 15 pm, at the Nelo Bracalente Stadium, in Vinhedo (SP).
The Flamengo team is coming off a loss to Rio Preto last week. With the result, Flamengo remains in second place in Group 2, with seven wins, three draws, and two losses in twelve matches.
Dispute system
In the first stage of the competition, the teams face each other in a home-and-away format. Then, the top four clubs from each of the two groups advance to the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final. All matches will be played in home-and-away format. The Brazilian champion also secures a spot in the 2019 Copa Libertadores.

Ponte Preta is coming off a 1-1 draw against Audax in the Brazilian Championship. The team sits in fourth place with 16 points, four wins, four draws, and four losses.
In the Campeonato Paulista, the team faced Corinthians last Saturday and lost 2-0 away from home.
Retrospect
Flamengo and Ponte Preta have faced each other three times in the history of the Brazilian Women's Championship. Back in the 2017 group stage, the teams played one match in Rio de Janeiro and another in Campinas. In the first round, the Meninas da Gávea put on a show in Gávea, defeating Ponte Preta 3-0, with goals from Pâmela, Larissa, and Jane. In the return leg, Flamengo went to Moisés Lucarelli and ended up losing. Ponte Preta opened the scoring and extended the lead, but Raquel scored to reduce the deficit. However, Flamengo conceded another goal and lost 3-1.
In the first round of 2018, Mengo had a great collective performance at the Gávea stadium and won 1-0, with a great goal scored by Bárbara from a free kick.
