In a duel of contrasting halves this Sunday afternoon (26), Flamengo and Fluminense drew 2-2 in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Brazilian Women's Under-20 Championship. Anna Luiza and Brendha scored the goals for Mais Querido at Estádio Marcelo Vieira. Now, the team led by Filipe Torres needs a simple victory to guarantee a place in the semi-finals.
The game
Right from the start, Flamengo showed what they were made of, hitting the crossbar with striker Brendha after a beautiful play by Anna Luiza. At 20', in a set-piece situation, Sofia rose alone and hit the post. Despite their clear dominance, Flamengo conceded a counter-attack to Fluminense at 29'. And on the opponent's first attack, Kaline took advantage of a defensive lapse and opened the scoring.
The goal didn't discourage the Flamengo women's team, who continued with their purpose and equalized in the 36th minute: Thaina made a mistake playing the ball out, and Anna Luiza, alert, dispossessed her and slotted the ball into the corner. Two minutes later, Isabela Nunes delivered a perfect cross, and Brendha headed it in flawlessly: 2-1. Before halftime, Tainara leveled the score after a rebound: 2-2.
On the return leg, the electrifying match became fragmented and full of fouls. Due to the intense heat, the intensity decreased and few chances were created. In one instance, Isabela Nunes again crossed into the box, and the ball went past everyone. In the final moments, Ana Papel – who came on as a substitute and played very well – attempted a set piece, but nothing came of it: 2-2, setting the stage open for a Fla-Flu derby at Gávea.
