The preparation has come to an end with full weeks, intense training and it's time for Mengão's U-20 team to return to play this season. This Saturday morning (28), Rubro-Negro will make its debut in the category's Copa Rio against Botafogo, at 10 am, in Gávea. The match will be broadcast on FlaTV.
In 2023, FERJ opted to hold the competition, similar to the State Championship, in a single-round, round-robin format in the first phase. Therefore, the Meninas da Gávea will face Botafogo, America, Bangu, Fluminense, LGD/Karanba, and Rio de Janeiro. The top two teams will advance to the grand final, which will be played in a single match. In an interview after the final match, coach Celso Silva analyzed the first-round matchup.
"We've been waiting for this moment. So, we come into this competition with a derby right off the bat, which really raises our spirits. Expectations are high. We'll play at home and go for the three points. It's an important match because of the format of the competition, and we have to make the most of our home advantage," he said.
