Flamengo partners with Team Chicago Brasil, an exclusive women's soccer project
The center located in the West Zone of Rio is the second officialized by the club aiming at the evolution of the sport
By Flamengo Communication - inContinuing the expansion of women's soccer throughout the state of Rio de Janeiro, Flamengo has a new partner organization. It's the West Zone unit of Team Chicago Brazil, located at Campo dos Afonsos, at the Air Force headquarters.
André Rocha, the sport's coordinator, visited the venue and handed over a Sacred Mantle worn last season to coordinator/coach Alexandre Xavier. He also spoke with the athletes and explained how it will work from now on. After the chat, André watched the training session.
"Following our plan to promote women's soccer in Rio, we are officially supporting another promising and exclusive project for the sport. Under the care of teachers Alex and Alexandre, the girls receive full attention and opportunities to practice sports in a safe and appropriate environment. Now, with the club's involvement and methodological support, we are confident that the athletes will develop even further, and in the short term, we will have several of them joining Flamengo's youth teams," he stated.
"We've been developing our work in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro since 2019. We started with eight athletes and now have almost 30. We didn't have any support before, but we still achieved results. Being able to count on Flamengo's support is the certainty of recognition for our work and an even more promising future. We currently have three girls in the club's U-20 squad, and we want more," said Alexandre.
About Team Chicago
Focused entirely on women's soccer, Team Chicago has existed since 100, but the West Zone chapter began its activities in May 2002, with a total focus on social outreach. Training sessions take place on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 2019 p.m. to 17 p.m., for girls ages ten and older. The project, besides being well-known in Brazil, is highly regarded abroad for its combination of sports and education.
