Flamengo/Marinha and Audax face each other in Gávea for the Brazilian Women's Championship
Mais Querido returns to play in the national championship after winning the Military World Games
By Mariana Sa - inThe champions of the Military World Games are back in Rio de Janeiro and ready for the continuation of the Brazilian Women's Football Championship. This Sunday (5), Flamengo/Marinha hosts Grêmio Osasco Audax, at 15 pm, at the Gávea stadium. The match is valid for the ninth round of the group stage.
In addition to the athletes in the United States, other Flamengo players remained in Rio training with assistant coach Celso Júnior. Thus, Flamengo continued training despite the gap between this game and its last, a 6-0 victory over Portuguesa on June 13th.
The Meninas da Gávea are in second place in Group 2 with 15 points, four wins, three draws and one defeat in eight games.
Dispute system
In the first stage of the competition, the teams face each other in a home-and-away format. Then, the top four clubs from each of the two groups advance to the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final. All matches will be played in home-and-away format. The Brazilian champion also secures a spot in the 2019 Copa Libertadores.
the opponent
Audax isn't having a good season. In the Campeonato Paulista, the Osasco girls ended up losing 4-1 away from home in the last round, remaining in fourth place. In the Brasileiro, they suffered a tough 4-0 home defeat to Rio Preto, leaving them in sixth place.
Retrospect
The teams had never met in the history of the Brazilian Women's Football Championship prior to the current edition of the competition. Since the Osasco team split with Corinthians, Audax had not faced Flamengo/Marinha until the first-round match, when the teams drew 2-2 at José Liberatti Stadium. With a second-half comeback, the red-and-blacks managed to equalize the score despite falling behind. The goals were scored by Carol and Bárbara.
