Flamengo/Marinha and Vitória face off in the Women's Brazilian Championship

By Mariana Sa - inLooking to get back to winning ways, Flamengo/Marinha hosts Vitória-BA at 14 p.m. at Gávea Stadium for the ninth round of the Brazilian Women's Football Championship. This will be the Flamengo's final match before the break for the Women's Football World Cup.
With 19 points, Flamengo is in fourth place in the Brasileirão, with six wins, one draw, and one loss. In their last match, Flamengo lost 2-1 to Santos.
Flamengo x Vitoria
The teams have met twice in the history of the Brasileirão Feminino, both in 2017. In the first game, Mengão won 3-0 at Manuel Barradas Stadium in Salvador, with goals from Diany, Bárbara, and Fernanda, all in the second half. In Rio de Janeiro, another 3-0 victory, this time at Gávea. The goals were scored by Larissa (twice) and Flávia.

Vitória is in eighth place in the Brasileirão, with 10 points. Having played eight games, won three, drawn one, and lost four, they have scored 11 goals and conceded six.
In the last round, the Bahians went to the PUC University Stadium, in Porto Alegre, and beat Internacional 3-0.

Flamengo/Marinha in the Brazilian Championship
This will be Flamengo/Marinha's fifth appearance in the Brasileirão. Playing nationally since 2015, the red-and-black team won the title in 2016 and competed vigorously for the title in every edition. Last year, the team reached the semifinals. It's worth noting that Flamengo finished last year with the Campeonato Carioca title, its fourth since the partnership began.
Dispute system
Starting this season, the competition format will be different from previous years. This time, all 16 teams will face each other in a single round, alternating between home and away matches. The top eight teams advance to the quarterfinals and so on until the final. In the knockout stage, all matches will be home and away.
Having been one of the top eight teams last season, the regulations state that Flamengo will play eight matches at home and seven away.
In a Women's World Cup year, the competition is scheduled to take a break between rounds nine and ten. Therefore, the Meninas da Gávea will play at the end of May and return only in July.
