By Mariana Sa - inOn Wednesday afternoon (25), Flamengo/Marinha debuted in the Brazilian Women's Football Championship A-1 and was defeated by Santos at Vila Belmiro. With one less player since the 17th minute of the first half, the Meninas da Gávea ended up being defeated by 6 to 0.
The game
Flamengo started the game with good ball control and creating good plays down the right. On the other side, Santos managed to threaten the Flamengo defense, but the "Mais Querido" (Flamengo's Favorite) stopped the opposing attacks. The situation changed in the 17th minute, when goalkeeper Stefane got ahead of the defense and ended up committing a hard foul on the Santos striker. As the last player before the goal, the number 1 was sent off.
Santos opened the scoring in the next play and extended their lead shortly thereafter, leading into halftime 2-0. Returning to the field, Flamengo failed to organize their defense for the second half, conceding four more goals. The Meninas da Gávea still had a few chances to reduce the deficit, and Kaká made some good saves, but the score ended 6-0.
And now?
Flamengo returns to the field next Wednesday (02/05), at 15 pm, when they face Ponte Preta in Gávea. The match will be the Mais Querido's first at home and Mengo counts on the support of the Nation.
