Flamengo/Marinha loses 2-0 to Corinthians in the Brazilian Women's Championship
With the result, the Meninas da Gávea said goodbye to the competition.
By Romulo Paranhos - inFlamengo/Marinha returned to the field on Sunday afternoon (15), at Parque São Jorge, and was defeated by Corinthians by 2 to 0. The duel was valid for the second match of the semifinals of the Brazilian Women's Championship. With the result, the Meninas da Gávea end their participation in the competition.
The game
The match began with both teams well-positioned in defense, with both sides trading back and forth in midfield. Flamengo/Marinha adopted a high-pressure strategy and, as a result, managed to neutralize Corinthians' key attacking moves. The Meninas da Gávea also sought to attack, but were met by the opponent's strong defense. Corinthians took the lead in the 41st minute, after a beautiful shot from Thamiris.
Even trailing, Flamengo/Marinha started the second half exploring the flanks, sending balls into the box to find an open shot. In a deadly counterattack by the home team, Ingrid scored the second goal and sealed the outcome of the match.
Despite their efforts, the Meninas da Gávea were unable to turn the result around and bowed out of the competition. It's worth noting that in the first leg, played in Cariacica, Corinthians had already beaten the red-and-blacks 2-1.
