It wasn't Flamengo's day. This Sunday, the "Mais Querido" (Most Beloved) was defeated by Palmeiras 3-1 at the Brinco de Ouro stadium, finishing as runner-up in the 2026 Brasil Ladies Cup. Lorena Benítez scored twice, and Fê Palermo added another goal for the São Paulo team. Mariana scored for the Flamengo women's team.
Palmeiras took the lead in the first half. Flamengo, coached by Celso Silva, couldn't find their rhythm, and Palmeiras took advantage to go up 3-0. In the second half, Flamengo improved and pulled one back through number 10, Mariana. They had chances to close the gap even further, but were thwarted by a great performance from Palmeiras goalkeeper Tapia. In the final moments of the game, she made a miraculous save after a header from Mariana.
It's worth noting that Flamengo did not have their top scorer Cristiane, who is preparing for the upcoming games of the season. The team that started with Flamengo was: Vivi Holzel, Monalisa, Núbia, Flávia Mota and Jucinara; Djeni, Ju Ferreira, Kaylane and Mariana; Fernanda and Laysa.
Flamengo's campaign featured a great victory over Peñarol of Uruguay in the semi-final: 4-1. Palmeiras, in turn, overcame the Paraguayan national team in the other semi-final.
Flamengo's focus now returns to the Brazilian Championship and the Copa do Brasil. In the Brasileirão, Flamengo is in fifth place with 22 points and is on track to qualify for the knockout stage with five rounds remaining.
In the Copa do Brasil, Flamengo debuts in the round of 16 against 3B da Amazônia on July 20th, at home.
