The Flamengo mission in the first phase of the World Sevens was completed. On Saturday night (6), the Mais Querido was defeated by Tigres-MEX, 3-0, but advanced to the semifinals after winning the first two matches of the group, against Kansas City Current-USA and Toronto-CAN. With all the results, the team led by Celso Silva advanced in second place and will now face San Diego Wave tomorrow (7), at 15pm (13pm local time).

The game

The Flamengo women's team entered the field practically already qualified, but without letting their rhythm drop. In the opening minutes, Jucinara's shot from outside the area was saved by the goalkeeper, and soon after, it was Djeni's turn to try, also without success. Gradually, the Mexican team balanced the match and created dangerous opportunities, until Delgado found the top corner and opened the scoring. The goal left Flamengo distracted, and María Sánchez took advantage to score the second goal from the kickoff. The half ended 2-0 for Tigres.

On the return leg, Flamengo pressed and hit the post with Mariana in a good play by Cristiane. At 6', Glaucia crossed and Fernanda almost reached it. When the pressure seemed to be paying off, Greta Espinoza jumped higher than everyone else and scored the third goal. Despite the setback, the team left the field with their heads held high and with total focus on the decisive semi-final match.
