A winning start! In the first round of the Brazilian Women's Championship, Flamengo beat Mixto-MT 1-0 on Thursday night (12), at the Dutrinha stadium, in Cuiabá. Defender Núbia scored the only goal of the match with a header in the second half. Now, the Flamengo women's team will face Bragantino, at Luso-Brasileiro, in the next round.

The game

Flamengo started the match dominating possession and exchanging passes to try and penetrate Mixto's defense. Without the ball, the Flamengo women's team pressed higher up the pitch to try and regain possession. As a result, the home team found it difficult to get out of their own half.

The Flamengo team, in turn, adopted a more advanced posture and controlled possession in the attacking field to try to find spaces in the opposing defense, which was well compacted. In their only dangerous attack, Mixto almost opened the scoring with Géssica, who was free in the area and shot over the goal. Despite their overwhelming dominance, Flamengo went into halftime with the score at 0-0.

For the second half, coach Celso Silva brought on Letícia in place of Flávia Mota. The Flamengo women's team continued to have more possession and looked for opportunities to attack. Meanwhile, Mixto began to move out of their defensive half more and circled the Flamengo penalty area, creating some dangerous chances.

After much persistence, Flamengo opened the scoring in the 16th minute. In a rehearsed corner kick play, Fernanda passed to Monalisa, who crossed perfectly for defender Núbia to head into the corner. The goalkeeper tried to prevent it, but the ball went into the net: 1-0.

With the lead, the Flamengo women's team had more peace of mind to value possession of the ball in the attacking half. In the final stretch, Flamengo knew how to manage the result, left the field with the victory and started the Brazilian Women's Championship on the right foot, adding three points away from home.
