In a balanced and hard-fought match at Nivaldo Pereira, Mengão defeated Vasco 1-0 on Saturday afternoon (10), taking a big step towards winning the Guanabara Cup of the Women's Under-17 State Championship undefeated. Striker Ingrid Santos, who has been outstanding, scored the only goal. With the victory, the team reached 18 points, maintained the lead and only depends on itself to be crowned champion of the first phase of the competition.
The game
Those who attended the stadium saw a mentally strong Flamengo, feisty, and unbeaten in the tackle, a hallmark of the team throughout the tournament so far. At several points in the first half, the match was tight, with the Red-Blacks trying to create good plays, but to no avail. Solid in defense and solid in midfield, the Meninas da Gávea failed to score and went into halftime tied 0-0.
In the second half, the story changed, and the Mais Querido began to impose itself and dominate. It took time, but their superiority resulted in a goal. In the 30th minute, Janaína hit the crossbar, and on the rebound, Ingrid Santos adjusted and struck powerfully into the corner to put the team ahead: 1-0. With the advantage under control, they just had to wait for the clock to tick down and celebrate the victory, which practically secured their first victory.
