Playing away from home at CT Almirante Heleno, Mengão defeated Vasco 2-1 and took sole control of the Copa Rio U-20 lead. Brendha and Emilly scored the goals in the triumph for the Meninas da Gávea, who reached nine points and virtually secured a place in the final.

The game

The first half started out choppy, with fouls galore for both sides. In the 17th minute, the referee awarded a penalty to Vasco, and Maikely converted. A minute later, Brendha received a good pass from Leane, burst into the penalty area, and tied the game at 1-1. Anna Luiza then went in alone and forced a great save from the opposing goalkeeper. After the timeout, the game became choppy again, and the last good opportunity fell to Isabela Nunes with a free kick. The teams went into halftime tied.

In the second half, the intensity dropped slightly, but the Meninas da Gávea continued their quest for victory. In the 20th minute, coach Filipe Torres brought on Alice and Emilly. The changes had an immediate effect, and the red-and-black team began to press. Their dominance resulted in a winning goal: Emilly took a perfect corner kick to put Mengão ahead.

Given the situation, Rubro-Negro managed the advantage well, almost extending it with a play by Maria Fernanda and leaving the field with three very important points: 2-1 and the leadership of the competition guaranteed.
