Flamengo/Marinha restarted its pre-season work last week (9) and already has five new reinforcements for 2018. Coming from various clubs across the country, the players are already taking part in training led by coach Ricardo Abrantes and his technical committee, in addition to preparing for the next red-black challenges.
A standout player for Iranduba (AM) last year and a leading figure in the field, 25-year-old forward Dany Helena previously played for Kindermann (SC), Cresspom (DF), and Foz Cataratas (PR), where she competed in the Women's Libertadores, before arriving in Rio de Janeiro. Born in Brasília, the player's main characteristics include good finishing, heading, and speed.
Still on the front line, Rafaela Barros also joins the attack and, at 24, is competing for a starting spot due to her finishing and speed. Her most recent clubs were Franca (SP) and Zhejiang Hangzhou in China. The forward is from Rio de Janeiro.
Despite being only 24 years old, Geovana Alves has extensive experience both at home and abroad. The forward/midfielder has played for Team Chicago (RJ), Botafogo, América (RJ), and Vasco da Gama before moving to England, where she played for Keynsham Town. Geovana then moved to the United States, playing for Iowa Central Community College, Florida Atlantic University, Fuerza FC, and Boca Blast. The Roraima native also spent time in Switzerland, playing for the Wildcats and FC Baar, before returning to Brazil with Vitória (PE). Her key strengths include speed, strength, crossing, finishing, and tackling.
Another addition is Aline Guedes, a native of Belo Horizonte who played for Atlético Mineiro, América Mineiro, and Ipatinga. The 28-year-old midfielder boasts skill with the ball, a good finish, and the intelligence to think up plays.
Finally, defender and full-back Beatriz, 20, won the 2017 Paulista Women's Championship with Rio Preto. A native of São Bernardo do Campo, she also played for Centro Olímpico and Audax before joining the club. Her strengths include marking, strength, aerial ability, and good tactical positioning.
The first competition scheduled for the Meninas da Gávea is the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A1, which is scheduled to start on April 25th.
