With the 1-0 victory over Ferroviária, in Rio de Janeiro, last Wednesday (11), the Flamengo/Marinha girls secured an unprecedented place in the final of the 2016 Women's Brazilian Championship. The athletes now face the current champions from Rio Preto.
Flamengo and Marinha started by putting pressure on Ferroviária at Antunes Stadium. Failing to score, the two teams went into halftime tied at 0-0. Flamengo and Marinha came out swinging in the second half, and the smothering effort paid off: Larissa opened the scoring in the 9th minute. It was the striker's seventh goal of the competition. Ferroviária still pushed for the equalizer, but the Flamengo defense gave them no space.
The Mais Querido girls needed a simple victory to reach the final, having lost 2-1 in the first leg in Araraquara. Tania's away goal secured their qualification.
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has not yet announced the date, time and location of the decision.
