Another trophy for the Girls of Gávea! On Sunday morning (26), Flamengo's under-20 women's soccer team took to the field at the José Bastos Padilha stadium, in the social headquarters, to face LGD/Karanba, in the final of the Unifoot Diamante Pro Cup. With a clean 5-0 victory, with goals from Ju Lopes (2), Pimentinha and Mariana Fernandes (2), the Rubro-Negro lifted the trophy. This was the club's first participation in the tournament, which reached its third edition.

The game

Flamengo quickly threatened the opposing goal. Five minutes in, captain Mariana Fernandes appeared at speed, one-on-one with the goalkeeper, who palmed the ball out for a corner after the red-and-black's shot. Shortly thereafter, our girls opened the scoring. Ingrid's cross from the left corner was headed in by Ju Lopes inside the box: 1-0 for Mengão, in the athlete's first official match at Gávea.

The second goal came just five minutes later. Opportunistic Pimentinha didn't give up, capitalizing on a poor exit by the LGD/Karanba goalkeeper and tapping it into the back of the net in the 14th minute of the first half. The number 11 nearly added another in the 18th minute, following a pass from Mariana Fernandes inside the penalty area, but the ball flew high and sailed over the crossbar. The Mais Querido (Most Beloved) came close to a third goal with defender Kethilyn, who, in the 25th minute, struck a powerful shot aimed at the top corner, but this time, the ball hit the crossbar and went out for a goal kick.

The second half was a downpour—and a flurry of goals. Just three minutes in, after a free kick, Ingrid went to the baseline and assisted Mariana Fernandes to score Mengão's third. In the 10th minute, Ju Lopes scored the team's fourth, her second of the match. After a deflection from the opposing defense, the "Girl from Gávea" struck first time and sealed the rout: 4-0. After scoring her second in the 25th minute, the number 8 was substituted due to calf pain. 

With the clock showing 35 minutes into the second half, Flamengo defender Alessandra tackled her opponent and was sent off. But even with a player down in the final minutes, Celso Silva's team still extended their lead with another goal from Mariana Fernandes, who capitalized on the goalkeeper's error to seal the match, maintaining the victory on the field and securing the trophy at Gávea.

Season Sequence

The next challenge for the red-black U-20 team will be the Carioca Championship in the category, in August.
