On May 31, 2019, Mariana Fernandes signed with Flamengo, beginning her career with the club. There began a story full of positive moments and an identification with the Sacred Mantle that transcends the pitch. Today, three years after her arrival, Marianinha has become MF7, earned respect, become a leader, earned the captain's armband, and been called up to the Brazilian national team.
Mariana experienced the entire process of Mais Querido's transformation into the sport. She was part of the pioneering youth team, attended the first competition, and saw everything unfold before her very eyes over time. There was no better setting to build such an intense relationship.
"Since 2019, there has been significant progress within the club. The youth teams have undergone repeated transformations, and today we have an excellent group. Furthermore, it's worth remembering that Flamengo has invested more and more in us during this period and, consequently, currently offers us the best structure. This allows us to develop further," he assessed.
The internal change also happened naturally. The 14-year-old has grown up and, now at 17, has matured. Maturation, a fundamental part of any player's career, is something that draws a lot of attention, and the forward continues to make clear progress.
"When I compare myself to the Mariana of 2019, I see a huge transformation. I arrived young and small, and this caused some outsiders to underestimate my potential. Flamengo offered me experiences that allowed me to gain a lot of maturity on and off the field. My characteristics blossomed, I established myself in the squad, and gained representation. Today, I can say that I have built a Mariana who represents Flamengo," she said, in a confident and assured tone.
The challenges began early, especially in tournaments. Right off the bat, a Brazilian U-18 Championship. Despite her young age, Mari stood out because she adapted her style, which has stayed with her to this day due to her mindset and development.
"It was quite challenging to play in the U-18s at just fourteen years old. There was a physical difference that put me at a disadvantage, but it forced me to find solutions that allowed me to perform well. These solutions have improved, and today I have a fast game, with quick thoughts and actions. Tackling also gave me confidence to play, as I had to believe in myself more than anyone else," he commented.
When asked about an unforgettable game, the Menina da Gávea didn't hesitate and chose the great victory over Corinthians, in the debut of the second phase of the Brasileirão Feminino Sub-20, last week.
"It was a national derby, where we beat our opponent 3-0. It was memorable for me, from the atmosphere in the locker room to the action on the field. I remember every detail. Our team played with Flamengo's spirit and achieved a great result with great unity. This match made me proud and aware that we're doing a great job," he emphasized.
At the end of the chat, which lasted about twenty minutes, MF7 opened her heart and, visibly moved, declared her love for Rubro-Negro.
"Flamengo is the realization of a daily dream. I've loved the club since I was in my mother's womb, and that love grows stronger every day. I see Flamengo as the gateway to my goals, and I'm very happy representing the Sacred Mantle. My main goal now is to win a title, write my name in history, and reach the professional level," he concluded.
