On Wednesday afternoon (15), the Gávea Girls of the U-17 team beat Athletico-PR 2-1 at Arena Morro das Pedras, taking the lead in group A and securing their place in the semi-finals of the Brazilian Women's Championship in the category in advance. The triumph, with goals from Cerqueira and Alice, had a special flavor due to Flamengo's birthday.

The game

Not even the intense heat changed the strategy of Filipe Torres' team in the opening minutes, and just like in the first match, it paid off immediately. Just two minutes in, Cerqueira received the ball from Larissa, beautifully dribbled past her opponent, and chipped it over the goalkeeper: 1-0. Then, the number 8 nearly extended the lead after a rebound from a free kick. The red-and-black dominance continued, and Kaylane Vieira had a good opportunity, but was stopped by the goalkeeper. The first half ended like that.

In the second half, Athletico-PR equalized with a goal from Thais, but the Red-Blacks remained undeterred and remained in control. After a long struggle, the team took the lead again in the 20th minute: Maikely made a beautiful play, got to the baseline, and crossed for Alice, who won the challenge and slotted home. The final minutes were filled with determination and dedication for the result. As soon as the referee blew the whistle, celebrations took over the field.

Having qualified, Mais Querido returns to the field on Friday (17), to face Santos, at 11 am, at the same location as today.
