Mengão draws 1-1 with Santos in the last game of the group stage of the Brazilian Women's Under-17 Championship
Maikely scored the team's goal; Qualified, Mais Querido now awaits Ferroviária or São Paulo in the semi-finals
By Rafael Rezende - inWith qualification guaranteed for the semi-final of the Brazilian Women's Under-17 Championship, Mengão took to the field this Friday (17) to face Santos in the last round of the qualifying phase and drew 1-1. Striker Maikely scored the red-black goal at Arena Morro das Pedras.
The game
The early opening didn't change the Meninas da Gávea's style, as they began by pressing and suffocating Santos. Their dominance, however, failed to result in a goal despite Luciana's chances, and the teams went into halftime tied.
In the second half, just two minutes in, Maikely won the race, burst into the box, and slotted the ball past the goalkeeper: 1-0. Flamengo equalized on the next play through Luana Falconeri, but Flamengo held firm and tried to score a second. Filipe Torres' changes gave them a new lease of life, but the score remained 1-1 until the final whistle.
And now?
Leader of the group with 7 points, Flamengo is in the semifinals and awaits Ferroviária or São Paulo. The games - in a home and away format - are scheduled for Tuesday (21) and Thursday (23), also in Belo Horizonte.
