Mengão thrashes Botafogo-PB 7-0 in the second round of the Brazilian Women's Under-20 Championship

In the second round of the Brazilian Women's Under-20 Championship, Flamengo had a great performance and thrashed Botafogo-PB 7-0 on Thursday afternoon (23), in Gávea. Mengão's goals were scored by Maria Peck (2), Pimenta (2), Louvain, Mariana Fernandes and Gica. With the result, the Girls from Gávea added 6 points in two games in the competition.   

The game
Flamengo started the match with absolute control of possession and managed to open the scoring after just three minutes. Ana Laura received the ball on the right and crossed into the box for Maria Peck to hit first time, sending it into the goalkeeper's right corner: 3-1.

Mengão continued to pressure Botafogo-PB, who were making numerous errors when moving the ball forward. In the 11th minute, Pimenta passed the ball into the box to Mariana Fernandes, who hit a low cross that went just wide of the post.

In the 23rd minute, the Meninas da Gávea extended their lead! Maria Peck delivered a beautiful pass to Pimenta in the box, the number 9 controlled the ball and shot into the corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance: 2-0.

In the final stretch of the first half, Mais Querido scored the third, again with Maria Peck, who took advantage of a corner kick from the right and gave a little touch to cover the goalkeeper: 3-0.

The fourth goal came after a free kick from Naely into the box. Maria Peck headed the ball, and it fell to Pimenta, who challenged the goalkeeper and tapped it into the net: 4-0. The number 9's second goal of the match. The first half ended with a clear advantage for the red-and-blacks.

The second half began just as the first had ended: with Mengão dominating the game. In the 14th minute, the Meninas da Gávea scored their fifth goal with a stunning goal! Ana Laura passed the ball to Louvain at the edge of the box, and the number 23, with a sliding tackle, chipped the ball over the Botafogo-PB goalkeeper to score a beautiful goal in Gávea: 5-0.

In the 42nd minute, Bruna was brought down in the box and the referee awarded a penalty. Mariana Fernandes stepped up to take the penalty and slotted it into the left corner of the goal, further extending the rout to 6-0.

In the last minute of stoppage time, Mengão scored the seventh goal with Gica! Bruna crossed into the box and the striker headed it in to seal the victory for the red-and-blacks at Gávea.

Next appointment
The Gávea Girls of the U-20s return to the field next Wednesday (29) to face Esmac-PA, at 15 pm, at the Francisco Vasques Stadium, in Belém, Pará. The confrontation is valid for the third round of the Brazilian Women's Championship in the category.
