Number 8 shows resilience, gets emotional and hopes to continue shining

Samhia Simão made her debut for Flamengo/Marinha last Saturday (21), in the first match of the Campeonato Carioca. After being sidelined due to a serious knee injury, the midfielder returned in style, took advantage of the chance she received and scored five goals. Complete overcoming.
In the second round, three more. With eight goals in total, she's already the team's top scorer in the competition. Aware that she's enjoying a good run with Manto, Samhia doesn't hide her joy at doing what she loves most. Resilient despite so many obstacles in her path, the Minas Gerais native says she's grateful for this moment.
"The word that sums up everything I'm feeling is gratitude. I waited a long time for this opportunity on the team, and I never imagined I'd score so many goals right away. On my debut, I only realized I'd scored five when other people told me. To be honest, it still hasn't sunk in. God has been very good to me. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank my family, friends, physiotherapists, doctors, and the coaching staff. It's been a long journey, but I persevered and overcame the difficulties," she stated.
The number 8 is one of the squad's leaders. With a long history in soccer and a successful life story, she's a vocal voice in the locker room. Despite her experience, she was shaken when she found out she'd start against LBD Porto Real, due to the excitement. Fate was fortunate and rewarded her.
"When Ricardo called me and told me I was making my debut, I was overjoyed. I knew what it meant to step onto the field for Flamengo for the first time. It was time to make all my hard work and anticipation worthwhile. Feeling that butterflies in my stomach again is priceless. Then I realized that football is my life. Before scoring the goal, I thought I would cry in celebration. But, oddly enough, I was relieved; after all, I had missed one before (laughs). Now, I want to stay focused on keeping scoring and helping the team," she emphasized.
The athlete quoted a famous Nação chant to explain the feeling of being part of Mais Querido and demonstrated confidence for the rest of the season.
"Wearing the jersey is difficult to explain. It's a different feeling. The motto of race, love, and passion is something you can feel in your skin. The responsibility of defending the club is enormous. In the Carioca, I hope we win the title, but also take the opportunity to correct mistakes and grow. We need to arrive in 2020 ready for the challenges," she concluded with joy and serenity.
