Reenacting the 2016 final, Flamengo/Marinha and Rio Preto face each other in Gávea
Mais Querido comes from a victory in the last round and wants to continue its good streak
By Mariana Sa - inGávea Stadium will host another important match for Flamengo/Marinha in the Brazilian Women's A-1 Football Championship. This Wednesday afternoon, at 15 p.m., the Mais Querido hosts Rio Preto in the third round of the competition and will be fighting for another positive result.
In the last round, Flamengo defeated Ponte Preta with a beautiful goal from Bárbara and earned their first three points in the Brasileirão. The match, played at Gávea, saw a strong collective performance from the red-and-blacks.
Dispute system
In the first stage of the competition, the teams face each other in a home-and-away format. Then, the top four clubs from each of the two groups advance to the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final. All matches will be played in home-and-away format. The Brazilian champion also secures a spot in the 2019 Copa Libertadores.
the opponent
Rio Preto is coming off two draws in the Brazilian Championship. In the first round, the São Paulo team drew 0-0 away to Portuguesa. In the last round, the team hosted Santos and drew again, this time 1-1 at home. In the State Championship, the girls beat Francana 2-1 in the last round and are currently top of Group 1.
Retrospect
This will be the seventh time Flamengo/Marinha and Rio Preto face each other in the Brasileirão Feminino. The first meeting was in 2015, the first year of the Flamengo-Marinha partnership. In the first round of the second phase, Flamengo lost 5-0 and was defeated 1-0 in the second leg.
In 2016, the teams played in the tournament's final, which ended with Mais Querido as champions. In the first leg, Mengo lost 1-0 at home. Later, in São José do Rio Preto, Larissa opened the scoring and Gaby completed the scoring for a sensational 2-1 victory and the first-ever trophy.
In 2017, the teams faced each other again in the sixth round. At the Anísio Haddad Stadium, Flamengo played a strong match, defeating Rio Preto 3-1, with goals from Pâmela (twice) and Diany. At Gávea Stadium, the match was tough and well-contested. However, the Meninas da Gávea team lost 3-2. Jane and Ju scored the goals.
