Rubro-Negro is in group E, with Cresspom, Fluminense and Goiás
By Flamengo Communication - inLast week, the CBF held the online draw for the first stage of the Brasileirão U-20. Flamengo was placed in Group E and will face Cresspom, Fluminense, and Goiás. The competition will take place from May 3rd to 14th in Santana de Parnaíba, São Paulo. As in previous editions, 24 clubs will participate.
The format will be the same as in 2021. Initially, the clubs will face off in a home-and-away format. The top eight teams will advance to the second phase, scheduled for the same location, with a new group division, from May 23rd to 27th. After that, it will be a knockout phase, with home-and-away matches.
In intense preparation for the tournament, Mais Querido is competing for the Unifoot Diamante Pro Cup with its team in the category. So far, Celso Silva's team has defeated Nova Aliança 9-1 and Guerreiras do Vale 14-0. For the coach, who began working with the youth academy in 2022, the main goal is to be a champion by developing athletes.
"There are some points that we consider interesting and that will directly influence our preparation leading up to the games. Within our group, we'll face a regional rival, which makes both matches decisive. Given the recent history of these clubs, where they've had some great duels, expectations are high. Another important aspect is that this is the first Brazilian Under-20 Championship in history. Therefore, the competition will be even greater, as everyone wants to win. Given Flamengo's size and scale, we have to go in aiming for higher positions, and we believe in that. The objective, first, is to qualify by performing well and, in the long term, achieve other goals. We know the importance of developing teams, and we want to develop winners. We're going to go after the title," he stated.
