The wait is over and the time has come for the U-20 team to officially take to the field for the first time in the 2022 season. This Saturday morning (19), Mengão faces Nova Aliança, at 10 am, in the debut of the third edition of the Unifoot Diamante Pró Cup. The duel will be held at CEFAN.

The professional championship will serve as preparation for the Meninas da Gávea, who will compete in the Brasileirão in May. The increase in the age range for CBF competitions (previously the U-18 age group) didn't impact the club's planning. After all, the Flamengo youth program has been running since 2019 and aims to develop athletes to play for the top team, following the maxim that "Flamengo makes stars at home."

Several familiar names are on the roster, including Ana Laura, Diovanna, Duda Rodrigues, Kaylane Júnior, Kethilyn, Lorena, Maria Peck, Mariana Fernandes, Naely, and Tuane. New additions include midfielder Jamille, who was part of the "Girls Love Football" project; full-backs Bela Souza and Parazinha; and young Laís, the youngest member of the group. Announced in January after a long stint in the professional ranks, coach Celso Silva emphasized the importance of the tournament and said that "Mais Querido" is entering the tournament with the goal of being champion.

"It's a moment everyone has been waiting for. We've been working hard since the beginning of the year, focusing not only on this competition, but on all of them. It's our first game, and we're all excited and thrilled, and we want to represent the club well. We know the level of the championship and are very confident in our abilities. We're going in to win and put Flamengo's name on the highest level. It's a step-by-step process, but we have great faith in the entire process," he declared.
