Flamengo has never faced Santa Fé in its history. Today will be the first match between the two teams, and especially in a CONMEBOL Libertadores. But playing against Colombian teams is common in Flamengo's history. And it's history. Soon, this Wednesday, we'll face the third round of the competition. Mengão is top, and a win would be very welcome today. So, before that, let's recap some matches against teams from that country in the CONMEBOL Libertadores history. 

1. In the year of the title

Let's start, of course, in 1981. On October 23, we faced Deportivo Cali in the semifinals and won both times. In Colombia, 1-0. In the second game, in Rio, 3-0, with two goals from Zico. He received a perfect cross from Leandro, controlled it with his chest, and fired past goalkeeper Valencia. Zico is Zico, right, my friend?

2. Colombia in double dose

In 1984, we faced two Colombians in the group. Against América de Cali, we drew 1-1 in Colombia and won 4-2 at the Maracanã. Adílio, after a beautiful one-two between Junior and Bebeto, shot and opened the scoring in the victory on May 3, 1984. A classic one-two from a team that knew how to play beautifully. 

3. Edmar, Edmais

The other Colombian in the 1984 CONMEBOL Libertadores group stage was Junior Barranquilla, and Mengão didn't let up. Two wins in two games. Edmar was the standout performer. In the first leg, in Colombia, it was 2-1, and he scored one of the goals. In Rio, on May 10th, it was 3-1, and Edmar scored all three goals for Flamengo. Was the guy inspired, or not?

4. Look at Higuita there

The 1993 match against Atlético Nacional in Medellin was marked by a blunder by the legendary Colombian goalkeeper Higuita. He tried to make a joke in front of Renato Gaúcho, messed up, and conceded a goal. It was Higuita, that Higuita! We're grateful and remember the winning goal, a 1-0 victory, back in Colombia.

5. The last time

The last duel against Colombians in the Libertadores was on February 27, 2002, against Once Caldas. At the Maracanã, a 4-1 rout on a night of Juninho Paulista, who scored two goals, one from a penalty and one from a backheel.

And there goes 16 years since they faced Colombian teams in the Copa Libertadores. Today they'll face their country again. The match kicks off at 21:45 p.m. and will be played behind closed doors.
