It's Flamengo vs Botafogo day at Maracanã. At 21:54 pm this Wednesday (28), the teams face each other in the fight for a place in the final of the 2018 Carioca Championship. With that in mind, we've selected five memorable classics that are part of history.
1) The first duel at Nilton Santos
In 2009, the match between Flamengo and Botafogo put the red-and-black team firmly in the running for the Brazilian Championship title. Adriano's goal and the 1-0 victory marked the Mais Querido's ten-game unbeaten streak.
2) The revenge of 6-0
That November 8, 1981, was a memorable day for Flamengo. With goals from Nunes, two each from Zico, Lico, Adílio, and Andrade, Flamengo overturned the 6-0 deficit in a packed Maracanã stadium.
3) Want more thrashing?
The 1985 classic was marked by controversy before the ball started. However, once the match began, Flamengo dominated. Despite trailing, Flamengo came from behind to win 6-1 and make the Maracanã tremble in the second leg of the Brazilian Championship.
4) Penta tri
Flamengo's fifth three-peat state championship came in 2007, 2008, and 2009, all against Botafogo. In the first title, Renato Augusto equalized and took the decision to penalties, which Flamengo won. Later, Obina scored in both victories against Botafogo to secure the second title. Finally, two 2-2 draws and another penalty shootout victory, making Flamengo the most successful champion in the history of the Campeonato Carioca.

Hernane had a knack for deciding matches. It's no surprise that when Flamengo went into the second leg of the Copa do Brasil quarterfinals needing to beat Botafogo, the number 9 stepped up and scored three goals, which, along with Léo Moura's, sent Flamengo through to the next round with a 4-0 victory.
