The strength of the red-black defensive system

Two goals conceded in five games. Flamengo's defensive performances in this post-World Cup period of the Brazilian Championship are undeniable. It currently has the best defensive system in the competition. Therefore, coach Rogério Lourenço is more than satisfied with his players' dedication in marking.

"We're having trouble scoring goals, but on the other hand, the team is strengthening its defense. Sometimes we're playing for a goal, we're winning 1-0, but we're getting good results," analyzed the coach.

According to Rogério, this team has everything it takes to go far in the competition. He believes the mix of reinforcements, young players, and 2009 champions can work with patience and hard work.

"This team has been searching, trying to do its best and I believe that the fans have to give it time and trust in the players who have arrived, in the young players brought up at the club and those who were Brazilian champions last year," he observed.

Defender Ronaldo Angelim, one of the most experienced in the group and one of the main reasons for the solidity of the red-black defense, believes that the team could even have left Maracanã victorious in the classic against Vasco.

"Flamengo was better, had more courage, and went for it. Vasco went for it on the counterattack. Everyone was favoring Vasco, but something else happened on the field," he concluded.
