At 29 years of age and with national and international experience in football, midfielder Correa is one of Flamengo's signings for the second half of 2010. A versatile player who can perform various functions in midfield, he has already been registered with the CBF and should make his debut with the red-black shirt this Sunday (18.07), against Atlético-GO.
And if it's up to his teammates, he'll have a great game. Defender Ronaldo Angelim, one of the most experienced in the group, praised Rômulo, who started as a defensive midfielder in the derby against Botafogo, but expressed confidence that, with Correa, the team will be even better positioned defensively and offensively.
"Rômulo had a great game yesterday, but Correa is an experienced player and will fight for his position. He's coming to help us, and I hope he helps us on Sunday because we have a very difficult battle in Goiás," he said.
Excited and anxious for his first official game wearing the Flamengo shirt, Correa predicts a tough match against the Goiás team, which is last in the 2010 Brasileirão table.
"Atlético aren't in good form and need a win. They'll be at home, and we have to be fully focused. We're thinking big. We won a derby, but the championship is very even, so we need to maintain our streak and look to put in another great performance. The pressure will be on, and we have to come out strong in this game to get three more points," he said.
With Correa as a starter, the tendency is for Flamengo to enter the field with Marcelo Lomba, Leo Moura, Welinton, Ronaldo Angelim and Juan; Correa, Willians, Kleberson and Petkovic; Vinícius Pacheco and Diego Maurício.
