The analysis is simple. Without conceding a goal, Flamengo guarantees at least one point in every match it plays. Based on this thinking, the red-and-black team values its defensive system and dedicates itself more and more, game after game, to preventing opponents from threatening Marcelo Lomba's goal.
Experienced defender Jean emphasizes the importance of his teammates' commitment to doing their best to defend. According to him, this is crucial for the team's success in the championship.
"Our focus is always on victory, but we know that not conceding a goal is crucial because we were able to secure at least a draw, which isn't a bad result. Scoring away from home is crucial, and everyone knows their roles and responsibilities. The strong defense is the result of the entire team's commitment," said the player, who, despite the praise, knows the team can still improve in some areas.
"Of course we're pleased with these numbers, but we can't fool ourselves. We always have to strive for improvement. We know what we need to improve and we talk about it amongst ourselves. Angelim and I have a good view of the team from way back, and we try to pass that on to Rogério and our teammates," he noted.
The defender also warns of the importance of winning points in direct clashes, as is the case in next Sunday's match (08.08). Predicting a fight for the top spots in the table, Jean believes it is important to take as many points as possible from opponents at home.
"It's what's called a six-point game. Corinthians is in second place, has a spot in the top four, and we want a spot among the top teams. We're right there in the fight, just three points behind fourth place, and it's very important that we manage to score points in this type of match, because besides coming away with the points, we prevent our opponent from winning," he concluded.
