Physiotherapist explains preparation for the São Paulo Cup, one of the most demanding competitions in the country
By Francisco Freire - inFrom the debut against Ji-Paraná, Rondônia, on January 3rd, to the final against São Paulo, nine matches were played in 22 days. The physical demands of the São Paulo Cup are immense, requiring special preparation. In an exclusive interview with FlaTV, physiotherapist Eduardo Calçada explained the process that led to the red-and-black team's fourth championship.
"Our physical therapy work has a different focus. The competition is long, but with short breaks. We focus on recovery and prevention. It's an integrated approach with physical preparation and the medical department. We focus on recovery mainly the day after games, with regenerative training. Those who played longer, those who played less," he said.
Calçada explains that, in addition to collective work, individual treatments are also carried out.
"On the field, during training, we train with everyone. If someone needs individualized work, someone with pain or overload, we focus on them individually. If a player needs more time, we have very specific training sessions in their rooms," he said.
Wesley, a starting full-back for much of the title-winning campaign, praised the work of the fitness team.
"It's a very important and very tough championship. The work we do is very good, there are specific periods to recover, relax the muscles and play every game feeling 100% fit," he said.
