The rivalry between goalkeepers and outfield players

Bets and jokes are common among goalkeepers and finishers in the Flamengo group

Itu (SP) - During Flamengo's training sessions, it's common to see forwards kicking powerful balls at the goalkeepers and mocking them, who in turn respond with taunts like, "I want to see you score against me." During the Flamengo offseason in Itu, when the group is getting the opportunity to be together more and more, this becomes even more common.

The bets are on and the jokes are non-stop. The one who shares the details is Paulo Victor, the Flamengo goalkeeper, who didn't concede a single goal in the final part of training last Thursday (July 01.07st) at the Spa Sports Resort, and therefore mocked the attackers.

"I feel a little sorry for Love, poor guy. I never lose to him, but he still loves to make fun of me. But just watch the training sessions and you'll see that I always win. Then, after these bets, the losers serve juice for dinner," joked the number 27, who believes that this kind of thing is essential for the squad.

"This happens to all teams and I think it's very valid. You never want to lose and you'll do everything you can to defend, and it also encourages the player to shoot well. It gives training a little extra energy and afterwards there's still that healthy teasing," he said.

Happy with his professional growth at the club and with the praise received from Rogério Lourenço, coach of the red-black team, the goalkeeper believes he is living up to a phrase that has been used a lot in recent years: goalkeeper, Flamengo also does at home.

"In three and a half years as a professional, I believe I've been improving. Rogério has known me since the youth team and has always shown himself to be a competent coach, and I'm happy with the praise. Flamengo plays goalkeepers at home, right? They have a good roster, including Julio Cesar, who's in the World Cup, Diego, and us now. So we have to work even harder to respond accordingly. Training is demanding. It's a different kind of work, and we have to adapt quickly. It's not easy for a reserve goalkeeper to get an opportunity, but whenever you do, it's important to be prepared," Paulo added.
