Adriano and Kleberson in action for the Brazilian national team

Flamengo players are the only representatives of Rio de Janeiro football in the friendly against Ireland

This Tuesday (02.03), Flamengo will not be on the field, but the red-and-black fans will be tuned to the TV. The only representatives of Rio football called up to serve the Brazilian national team, Adriano and Kleberson will also represent the millions of passionate Flamengo fans, starting at 17 pm, against Ireland.

Adriano is expected to replace striker Luis Fabiano, who had been Brazil's starting striker. He was injured and ruled out for this friendly, making room for Flamengo's center forward. The Emperor trained last Monday (March 01.03) in the national team's starting attack alongside Robinho at the Emirates Stadium in London, England, where the friendly will be held.

And it's not just the fans who are thrilled with the opportunity for the red-and-black players. Vagner Love, who has long been part of coach Dunga's squad, even from the sidelines, will be cheering for his teammates.

"Whenever I can, I watch the national team's games. Even though I'm not there, I really root for everyone. I always want them to do a good job," said Vagner Love.

The starting lineup will likely be without midfielder Kleberson. Even so, he hopes to capitalize on the opportunity provided by coach Dunga if he does make it onto the field.

"It's a golden opportunity. We know how competitive this spot is. I'm very happy and want to do my job well. That way I can fight for one of the World Cup spots," said the midfielder, who had a difficult time in 2009 after getting injured in the Brazilian national team's friendly against Estonia last August.

"I was out of action for a long time, but I came back to Flamengo in great shape. I never stopped working hard. I hope to secure my place here," concluded Kleberson.

In the team that should take to the field, other players raised in Gávea should be part of the starting lineup: goalkeeper Julio Cesar, defender Juan and midfielder Felipe Melo.
