Accustomed to crowds chanting his name, Adriano knows he's important to the Flamengo team. Known for being friends with all the players, Adriano, who missed the last Libertadores match due to back pain, wants to take advantage of this decisive moment in the Rio Cup to once again repay all the affection he receives at Gávea. And by doing what he does best: scoring goals.
The striker hadn't trained for five days and will make the sacrifice if he confirms his starting lineup for the match against Vasco, this Sunday (11.04). After all, the pain has subsided and the Emperor's presence is essential for Flamengo to beat their rival once again.
"When the team takes the field and doesn't see me, they know their responsibility increases. It's important to help them at this time. I know how much affection everyone has for me. "Yesterday's draw didn't weigh on me returning to the team. I really couldn't have played on Thursday. It was still hurting a lot. I decided that if the pain subsided, I would try to play against Vasco. That happened yesterday and I trained well. The doctor even asked me to be careful, as the pain could return. But I'm fine, with a clear head and wanting to help," he said.
And if Adriano's record this year holds up, Flamengo fans can be happy. With him on the field, the Red-Blacks lost only one derby, to Botafogo. This, incidentally, was the only game against the rivals in which the Emperor didn't leave his mark.
"I'm thinking a lot about this game. My record in classics is very good and I hope to maintain that. I've been out for five days and I hope that the desire will help with my lack of rhythm," concluded Adriano.
