Fighting for its fourth state championship and the Copa Santander Libertadores title, a title it hasn't won since 1981, the Rubro-Negro will face a grueling marathon in the coming weeks.
But who said the team is discouraged because of this? Quite the opposite. Flamengo's players and coaching staff are more than motivated for the final matches of the Taça Rio and the group stage of the Copa Libertadores.
"I think the team is ready. I hope there are no injuries, which will be important. We'll need everyone. There will be a lot of wear and tear, but I believe the team is prepared. These aren't easy games, they are decisive matches," said Maldonado.
Coach Andrade believes the physical aspect won't be a problem. According to him, this is the group's time to demonstrate that the preseason work was well done.
"I think the days in Porto Feliz were crucial to securing this moment. To reach this marathon and show that we are in very good physical shape," he noted.
On Sunday, the coach hopes to see the first team's reserves prove they are ready for any potential emergencies in the upcoming matches.
"It's a good game to observe those players who haven't been getting opportunities, like Denis Marques, Gil, and Rômulo. They're players who haven't been playing, but we'll analyze whether we can count on them in the future," he concluded.
