The "Theory of Evolution" has nothing to do with football. In Charles Darwin's time, Clube de Regatas do Flamengo hadn't even been founded yet. However, it doesn't take a scholar to realize how much the red-and-black team is improving with each game and with each reinforcement coach Andrade can count on. Therefore, the team is likely to only evolve with time. At least, that's what goalkeeper Bruno and defender Alvaro believe.

Captain, idol and one of the references of the Flamengo team, Bruno believes that, as the Campeonato Carioca progresses, the Flamengo team will find its feet, improve its chemistry, and gain momentum for the Copa Libertadores da América, which is seen as the great objective of the red-blacks in 2010. Despite the victories in the first three games of the State Championship, the number 1 still sees the team far from ideal.

"We fought until the end and it was practically our debut with the full team in the Carioca. We're far from ideal, but I'm sure our team will gain strength during the competition," he said.

Álvaro, who arrived at Flamengo midway through last year and became one of the key players in organizing the defense in the final stretch of the Brazilian Championship, agrees with Bruno. The defender isn't bothered by the high number of goals conceded by the red-and-black team at the start of the season (four in three games) and praises the strength of the squad, which has remained the same since 2009.

"We've been working for a while now and getting into the swing of things. Our team has had a backbone since the end of last year. We just need to get into more rhythm and prepare the team physically," he said.

I'm still lacking match fitness, and sometimes my legs feel heavy. It's tough. But, for my first game for Flamengo, I think I had a good debut and a dream come true," he explained.
