Alex Sandro is Mengão's new left-back

Mengão already has a new left-back! Alex Sandro, 33, was a free agent and signed a contract with Flamengo until December 2026. He fills the void left by Viña, who is injured and won't return until next year. A multiple champion with Juventus-ITA and with several call-ups to the Brazilian national team, the player will bring experience and quality to the Flamengo squad.

A product of Athletico-PR's youth academy, Alex Sandro made his professional debut in 2008, at the age of 18. Two years later, he transferred to Santos, and along with Neymar, was part of the squad that won the Copa Libertadores in 2011.

In July of that same year, the left-back attracted the interest of several European clubs and was signed by Porto in Portugal. But it was at another European club that Alex Sandro made history. It was at Juventus that the Brazilian enjoyed the best period of his career, winning five Italian and Coppa Italia titles.

His career with the Brazilian national team began in November 2011, when he was called up for the first time by coach Mano Menezes. Alex Sandro was also part of the 2019 Copa América-winning squad under Tite. A trusted figure of the current Flamengo coach, the full-back was called up for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
