Andrade considers resting starters in the Rio Cup
In a poll on the official website, 56% of fans believe the team should maintain full strength in the competition.
By From the team at Flamengo's official website - inIn the latest poll conducted by Flamengo's official website, 56% of fans said that the coach should not rest the starters for the remainder of the Taça Rio. The other 44% believe that the main players should only participate in the semifinals of the competition. Coach Andrade thinks the same way as most internet users, but has already admitted to giving some of his players a rest.
\The Flamengo marathon, which is still underway, has eight games in 30 days. A tiring and exhausting sequence against difficult opponents. In the last two weeks, the team played two derbies and two games in the Copa Santander Libertadores, achieving two wins, one draw and only one defeat.
\"These games are practically finals. In 14 days, we played four games against top teams, and that's exhausting. Even I, who don't play, get tired. Imagine them. But the team has overcome this and has been running hard in the games," explained coach Andrade.
\If they secure a spot in the semifinals early, the coach admits he might rest some players.
\"The idea was not to spare anyone. Only in case of suspension or injury. But we can think about it if we manage to qualify. Vagner Love, for example, is very sacrificed. He deserves to be rested. If there's a possibility, I'll think about it," he declared.
Those who could benefit from possible changes are the part of the group that travels to Brasília on Thursday to face Al Khoyol of Lebanon in a friendly match. Among the players are Michael, Leo Medeiros, Gil, and Denis Marques, who are still part of Andrade's plans.
"Nothing is set in stone. These players can still be used in the Taça Rio and, who knows, maybe even be registered for the next phase of the Libertadores," concluded the Flamengo coach.
