Angelim believes that Fla's defense commands respect
Defender says low average of goals conceded motivates even the red-black attack
By From the team at Flamengo's official website - inFlamengo has conceded just three goals in seven games since the World Cup, and there's no doubt that defense has been the strong point of coach Rogério Lourenço's tactical scheme. But for defender Ronaldo Angelim, defense shouldn't be confused with backline. He believes the entire group deserves credit for the impressive performances.
Just as it's not just the attackers' fault that the team is scoring fewer goals than expected (four in seven games). For the number 4, each player has to dedicate themselves and do their part both defensively and offensively.
"You can't say that only attackers are responsible for scoring goals and defenders for defending. It's up to the entire team to dedicate themselves to both attack and defense to achieve positive results," he said.
The defender also believes that the red-and-black defensive system is commanding respect in the competition and thinks that this can even motivate the attackers.
"Going to Curitiba with a strong defense is important and I believe it gives the players up front more peace of mind, because they know that if the defense is holding up well at the back, if they can create chances and score goals, it's unlikely we'll leave without a win," he concluded.
