Since 2007, Flamengo and Botafogo have dominated the Rio de Janeiro State Championship. For the past four years, Flamengo and Botafogo have been the title contenders, and while Flamengo prevailed in the first three seasons, this year Botafogo prevailed. The story of this clash, which has grown even more intense in recent seasons, will have another chapter next Wednesday (July 14.07).
The two teams face off at 21 p.m. at the Maracanã stadium, in both teams' first game back in the Brazilian Championship. Anticipation for the derby couldn't be higher, and defender Ronaldo Angelim, who has played in all four finals against the team from General Severiano, predicts a great match against his rival.
"Of course, facing Botafogo has a different flavor. The rivalry between the two clubs has grown significantly in recent years, and this year we haven't been able to beat them yet, which makes Wednesday's game even more important. They're a strong opponent, well-coached by Joel, and we know it's going to be a tough match. But we really want this win," he analyzed.
The defender can't wait to get back into action. Motivated to get on the field and secure all three points, Angelim is already missing Maracanã.
"We miss it. We've been out of action for a long time because of the World Cup. Of course we want to get back to playing soon. Everyone is motivated, eager to get on the field and win. We'll try to achieve that in every way possible," he concluded.
