"I'm not anxious. I felt anxious when I was 15 and about to make my debut in the youth team. I've been here a long time, I need to be calm. I'm working hard. I knew the chance would come, it came, and I have to dedicate myself fully now." With these words, goalkeeper Paulo Victor concluded his first press conference as a professional player for Flamengo.
The benchmark for success isn't so far away. Just look at Marcelo Lomba, who, like Paulo Victor, started his career in the youth ranks and climbed, step by step, until he earned a starting position in the middle of this year. Dreaming of following the same path, Paulo praises his teammate.
"Lomba deserves praise for his performances, because he came in at a difficult time and showed quality and ability. He's a tremendous goalkeeper, whom I've followed since I arrived here. I knew his moment would come and he responded very well," he said.
About to make his debut for the first team, on Sunday (05.12), against Santos, PV has been at the club for six years and says he is calm about the future. According to him, now is the time to show his potential and prove that everyone who has always praised him, since his youth days, was more than right.
"If I had 10 minutes to show myself, I would give my all to prove that Flamengo is well-served. I have to grab it with both hands, add another three here. It's a time of speculation, who's coming, who's leaving. I have to show that Flamengo is well-served in this position. Lomba showed it, and now it's my turn," explained the player, who assures he is happy for the opportunity, regardless of the team's current situation.
"A year ago, it was an immense joy. Competing for a title is something brilliant, even more so with Flamengo. Now it's a different moment, but it's the same happiness," he concluded.
