Despite the differences, 2009 serves as inspiration.

Dedication shown in the final stretch of last year serves as a model for Flamengo's new "decision" this season.

Less than a year after winning their sixth title, Flamengo is once again experiencing the crucial atmosphere of the final stretch of the Brazilian Championship. This time, however, they are in a situation no Flamengo supporter would want: fighting to escape the bottom of the table. And the team from Gávea knows that this is a time for total focus on trying to string together a positive run of results in the three remaining games of the competition.

Defender Ronaldo Angelim, hero of last year's title, believes there is no explanation for the team's performance this year. But he remains motivated to save the team from a bad situation and qualify them for the 2011 Copa Sudamericana.

"These things happen in football, many things have happened and it's not appropriate to talk about them now. We were champions, many players stayed, but the team changed. We are living through a situation that defies explanation. The group is good. It's up to us to do everything to save Flamengo," he said.

He believes the preparation is very different from last year's, even though both moments are crucial. According to him, Flamengo's decision now is different.

"The preparation changes. We are fighting to get Flamengo out of this difficult situation. Today, our final is different. They are somewhat similar situations, but with different levels of importance," he concluded.

Flamengo faces Guarani, Saturday (November 20.11th), at 19:30 pm, at Engenhão, in a direct confrontation to leave the bottom of the Brasileirão 2010 table.
