Flamengo debuted in the Copa do Brasil on Wednesday night (2), and away from home, beat Ponte Preta 1-0, with a goal by Henrique Dourado. The start in the national competition also served to consolidate the good defensive moment of Mais Querido, which reached the fourth consecutive game without conceding a goal.
After the victory in Campinas, goalkeeper Diego Alves praised his teammates and highlighted the evolution of the Flamengo team.
"These four games demonstrate that we are very solid defensively. We have to continue, of course it's a collective effort and not an individual one. We are growing in this aspect and we hope to improve with each game to pass this confidence on to the attacking players so they can calmly finish the game."
Despite having good numbers on the defensive side, the number 1 made it clear that the team doesn't go onto the field thinking about defending, but rather about playing with the ball at their feet.
"When you take responsibility for having possession of the ball and starting the play, you run a risk. You're not thinking about defending."
