When it takes the field against Atlético-GO, next Saturday (30), Flamengo will once again make history. Rubro-Negro will become the first club to reach the mark of 1500 games played in the Brazilian Championship in the Modern Era (since 1971).

The only club to win at least once in every decade of competition, the Mais Querido also has the most matches in the competition. Below, take a look back at other matches marked by centennial numbers:

Game #200: Flamengo 4 x 0 Bahia - 28/11/1979 - Maracanã

Closing the second phase of the 1979 Brasileirão, the Mais Querido hosted Bahia at the Maraca. Cláudio Coutinho led the team, which put on a show: Cláudio Adão shaved his beard, cut his hair, and moustache, and an own goal by Jorge Luís completed the scoring. The starting eleven was already a skeleton of the team that would conquer everything in the following years: Andrade, Leandro, Júnior, Tita, Adílio, and Zico were on the field. Mengão also had Cantareli, Dequinha, Carpegiani, Reinaldo, and Cláudio Adão on the field.

Game #300: Flamengo 3 x 0 Brasilia - 25/02/1984 - Maracanã

Three goals in the 300th game! Already a three-time Brazilian champion, Mengão established itself as the team to beat on the national stage. In February 1984, just a few months after the third title, the opponent was Brasília. The Red-Blacks took no notice and won 3-0. Coach Cláudio Garcia fielded Fla with Fillol, Heitor, Marinho, Guto, Júnior, Andrade, Adílio (Lico), Tita, Lúcio (Toninho Cajurú), Nunes, and João Paulo. The opposing net was found by João Danado (twice) and the eternal Gávea number eight.

Game #500: Flamengo 2 x 0 Sao Paulo - 22/09/1993 - Maracanã

A clash of giants to mark the 1992th match. Flamengo and São Paulo entered the Maracanã field as the holders of the previous year's Brasileirão, Libertadores, and World Cup titles. Flamengo, five-time national champions in XNUMX, prevailed. Their idol Júnior was in charge. Casagrande opened the scoring, and Edu Lima finished. Telê Santana's men couldn't even muster a reaction.

Game #700: Guarani 1 x 3 Flamengo - 23/09/2001 - Golden Earring

A victory with remarkable goals. In Campinas, Mengão opened the scoring with Alessandro. Petkovic set up the play, Edilson set up a back pass, and the full-back fired a cross. Guarani equalized, but Reinaldo, the King, put the Mais Querido back in front with a shot from outside the box. The scoring would be sealed by Brazil's most beloved Serb: Júlio César neatly replaced the ball, Reinaldo led the counterattack at speed, and Petkovic scored the third.

Game #1000: Santos 1 x 2 - 26/07/2009 - Vila Belmiro

An afternoon of broken taboos and plenty of emotion in Baixada Santista! Led by Andrade, the "Mais Querido" (Most Beloved) broke a 33-year winless streak at Vila Belmiro. Peixe took the lead, and Adriano equalized. Late in the match, an own goal sealed the victory for Mengão. After the final whistle, the red-and-black manager was moved to tears by the death of former goalkeeper Zé Carlos, which had occurred two days earlier. This match was crucial for the red-and-black team's push toward its sixth championship title.

Game #1300: Bahia 0 x 1 Flamengo - 25/06/2017 - Fonte Nova

Everton Ribeiro's debut for Flamengo was a game packed with action. It was a very open match, with dangerous chances at both ends of the field. Bahia was left with ten men when Lucas Fonseca feigned being attacked by Guerrero. Berrío scored. The Colombian took advantage of an assist from ER7 and saved a stunning shot. 

Game #1400: Grêmio 0 x 1 Flamengo - 17/11/2019 - Grêmio Arena

Before traveling to win their second continental title, Flamengo was on track to win their seventh national title. Porto Alegre was the club's last stop before the 2019 Copa Libertadores final. And Flamengo bid farewell to Brazil with a positive result. Flamengo had a spectacular record against Tricolor Gaúcho, having thrashed their opponent 5-0 in the continental competition's semifinal just weeks earlier. At the Arena do Grêmio, Gabigol scored, giving Flamengo 81 points. It would be the club's final match as six-time national champions: a week later, Grêmio and Palmeiras drew, confirming the club's title.

History will be written once again: Flamengo will become the first club to play 1500 games in the Brazilian Championship in the Modern Era (since 1971).
